- The project process
- Who we are
It is important for you to know what we're doing in order for successful communication, that is why we are showing you our formula for completing almost each web project we get. If you are curious about the stages we go through to complete a project then read on.
1
Planning the project - The first and most important part is the planning. This is where we listen to exactly what your vision is for your new website and how you want everything to work. We record everything you want in a website requirements and specifications document. After hearing what you want we put your needs in order of priority and give you an estimate of the time it will take and the project costs. A simple website may take as little as 3-4 days while an advanced site could take as long as a year! It all depends on how much you want. During the planning phase you may want to ask yourself why exactly you want the website. Do you want to sell stuff? Is your goal to promote? Do you want a strictly informational website? You also want to know what kind of people you want to see your site. It is also important to think about how you are going to advertise the website once it is completed. Search Engines only go so far, you may also want to consider all the ways you can market your new website once completed. There are many different factors to take into account when planning a website and we will help you take care of all of them.
2
Rapid Development Prototyping - After the vision is established a prototype is then made of the website. The prototype's purpose is to lay out interactive and easily to follow blueprints to the completion of the site. It is extremely helpful from a developing standpoint and from a communicative standpoint as well. You get to see the prototype while it is being created from the beginning to end and you may make suggestions for any changes along the way. The focus of Ocustructs Rapid Development Prototype is to show how everything will function, be laid out, and what exactly it will have. There is no focus on aesthetics during the prototyping phase, this is a reason why you will see no graphics on the prototype but just mock-ups of what all the different pages and features will do.
3
Designing the Graphics - This is when the layout is made, visual appeal is important in keeping visitors at the site. A professional look makes a website much more likely to gain traffic. Once the prototype is finished with we then give your website an appealing identity by giving you different template themes to choose from. The template themes are just images of what the website can look like, you may choose how many template themes you would like to be created when planning the project. We make sure that all designs are made appealing to your target audience.
4
Creating the Contents - Getting rich content into the website is another important factor in ensuring success. In creating content for a website it is important to use keywords over and over to help search engines find the website. A keyword is just a word or a phrase that strongly relates to your websites purpose. For example on this website the word "website" is used very often and usually with the word "design" or "development" this is done to show search engines that this website focuses on web development and design. During this phase is when you would send us any files, documents or graphics with what you want your website to say and have on its pages. If there is any content you want on the website that is not yet written you may let us write that content for you.
5
The Coding - Programming the functionality is usually the longest part of the website project, this is when the brain of the website is created that makes everything work. The coding is when the databases are structured and organized, objects are oriented and forms are processed. When coding the features a focus on usability is of utmost importance because if people don't know how to use something that is created for them then in their opinion it just doesn't work. Next to usability comes the ease of maintenance. It is a good idea to create all code in a modular fashion in order to make it easy to maintain and change in the future.
6
Testing/Debugging - Once the coding is done, designs created and content is placed the site is ready to start testing. This is when we put the website up for people to go in and mess with, this helps in finding any bugs in the code and in making sure everything is easy to use. When testing, the more people the better, so we do our best to gather as big a force as possible to test the website, and make sure the people we get to test the website are from diverse technical backgrounds in order to make certain people on all levels are satisfied with the website.
7
Public Release - This is the part where a breath of fresh air is taken in knowing that the website is finally complete and everybody pats themselves on the back. Although it's not all over yet, it is time to release the website to the public and get realistic interaction within the site. This is the part where we see what the public opinion of the site is and we stay around for you to make sure everything that was created for you works the way you want it.
8
Maintenance and Updating - Keeping your website updated is important in keeping activity. Nobody wants to see a website where all information on it is 3 months old and inaccurate. A website is truly never finished as the world around you never stops changing and information changes rapidly. By getting a plan to get your website regularly maintained you can make sure that your website stays up to date with the ever changing world. Maintaining a website includes tasks like updating contact information and company news, editing a websites text, removing or adding new pages to a website, updating the graphics and a ton of other aspects that deal with informational updates. So once your website is finished it is highly recommended to get a plan from us to regularly maintain your finished website.
And there you have it. Those eight steps above are everything that our website creation process consists of. It may sound like a lot of work, but that's the reason for the existence of Ocustruct, so you don't have to deal with any of it. All you have to do is tell us what to create and watch it magically come to life

Ocustruct is a web development and design company in Lompoc, California. Josh Wheeler developed the
idea for Ocustruct in September of 2006. This idea became a real and
thriving web design and development business. In the last year, David Dean, a veteran web designer and developer in the education field, became a part of Ocustruct.
The name 'Ocustruct' was a word created by the founder, Josh Wheeler. The Latin root 'Ocu' meaning eye and the other root 'struct' meaning build. These terms together create the words meaning, which literally translates to 'eyebuild'. The words intentional meaning is 'to build with the eye' or 'to construct with the eye'. This word ties into the two fundamental goals Ocustruct aims to complete. We want to 'build' functional websites which work fluidly and build them with the 'eye' as to maintain an outstanding visual quality. We accomplish this with competitive rates because we just simply aren't that greedy and love what we do. This is why you are in safe hands when choosing us.
